1. Bring in your gear
Call us or stop by The Local Hiker with your items during store hours. Our team will inspect each item to ensure it meets our quality standards.
2. We price your items
We'll work with you to determine a fair selling price based on condition, age, brand, and current market value.
3. We sell it
Your gear is displayed in our store and marketed to customers looking for quality outdoor equipment.
4. You get paid
When your item sells:

You receive 50% of the selling price (60% if you choose store credit)

The Local Hiker retains 50% to cover marketing, merchandising, inventory management, and sales services
What kind of gear do you accept?
We are looking for clean, functional and gently used:
Hiking backpacks Trekking poles Sleeping bags
Daypacks Sleeping bags Climbing equipment (subject to inspection)
Hiking boots Tents Kayak & paddle boards
Trail shoes Outdoor apparel Camping gear
All items must be clean, safe, and in working condition
What brands do you accept?
We love trusted outdoor brands (Patagonia, Mountain Hardware, Kelty, Kuhl, Osprey, Smartwool, Ruffwear, Northface, Deuter, ENO, and many many more), but we'll evaluate all gear based on condition, quality, and demand.
What if my gear has a hole in it or is slightly broken, but it is repairable?
If gear is in good repairable condition condition, it may be accepted. The Local Hiker has the final say whether it is accepted or not. If it is not sellable it may be able to be placed in our rental program.
What happens if my items do not sell?
To help items move and find a new home, pricing may be reduced over time:

After 30 days: 10% discount

After 60 days: 20% discount

After 90 days: 50% discount
Items that remain unsold after 120 days may be returned, donated, or otherwise removed from inventory according to our consignment agreement.
How much will I get back?
You will receive 50% of the selling price in the form of check or store credit.
Can I get store credit instead of a check?
Absolutely. Many customers choose store credit to help fund their next adventure.
Do I need an appointment and how do I begin?
No appointment is necessary. Call or bring your gear by during normal business hours and we will price it given time and staff availability.
Can I check on my items?
Yes! Our staff can help you review the status of your consigned items.
