Backcountry Navigation

Looking to venture further off the beaten path? This next-level navigation class takes you off the trail and on the Croft State Park Orienteering Course. We'll demonstrate effective route planning, techniques for navigating around unexpected obstacles (like wildfires, landslides, outages), and relocation strategies in case you get lost. Participants should have foundational knowledge and experience with map and compass navigation, including comfort reading a topographic map and taking a bearing. 

We will be meeting off Johnson Lake Road, Spartanburg SC.  Follow the road until you reach the sheltered picnic tables and the parking area.
